Comprehensive Eye Exam

The comprehensive exam begins with several pre-test measurements including auto-refraction, tonometry (which measures the pressure inside your eye and is an important indicator for diagnosing glaucoma), and the OptoMap ultra wide field retinal scan (to check for any retina problems). We can also assess your current glasses.

The doctor will review your history and perform tests to assess your visual function and ocular health. Some of the tests include visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and refraction. The exam concludes with a discussion of the test results and a personalized plan.

Contact Lens Exam

Contact lens technology has changed tremendously since they were first invented in 1947. Many patients come to our office already wearing contact lenses or with a desire to find out if they can wear contact lenses. Our doctors take extra time to evaluate and discuss contact lens issues so that proper ocular health is maintained. This may be done in addition to the comprehensive exam (same day) or may be scheduled on a different day (as a follow-up). We have a large selection of the latest contact lenses at our disposal including contacts for astigmatism and "bifocal lenses." We are strong advocates for disposable and frequent replacement lenses. If you are fit with new lenses it often includes one or more follow-up visits to ensure optimum health, comfort, and vision.

LASIK Exam

The doctors at Walkersville Eyecare believe strongly in the benefits of LASIK, PRK, and other refractive surgery options. As such, we do pre-op and post-op care while co-managing with the best surgeons in the area. Want to know if you are a candidate? We would be happy to schedule a "no charge" LASIK consultation to discuss your goals and questions.

Pediatric Exam

As much as 80% of learning is visual, and many vision problems in children can go undetected if you rely solely on the typical signs and symptoms of eye problems. We recommend that a comprehensive eye exam be part of every child’s wellness plan. Our doctor's are trained to asses the health and visual function for children at any age. The American Optometric Association recommends that every child have an initial examination at 6 months old, 3 years old, then before beginning 1st grade, and every 1-2 years afterward.

Low Vision Exam

Have you ever been told that, "This is the best we can do with glasses," and it's just not enough? If your vision can not be corrected to a functional level with standard glasses or contact lenses then you may be eligible for a low vision examination. Patients classified as "low vision" often have best-corrected acuity of 20/40 - 20/200 or worse. Common causes for this may include cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma, or a retinal detachment. During the exam the doctor will assess your vision, discuss your goals, and demonstrate various hand-held, spectacle, and digital magnifiers to make the most of your vision.

Medical Eye Exam

The doctors at Walkersville Eyecare have gone through extensive training to become skilled at diagnosing and treating many ocular disorders, including "pink eye," allergies, stye, and dry eye. We also have some of the latest instruments and technology for diagnosing macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal holes and tears, macular edema, and diabetic retinopathy. We offer same day appointments for eye injuries or emergencies.
